They say that diaper bags are getting bigger. Is this to accommodate the demand for designer handbag-like bags or are parents needing to pack more inside? When it comes to packing a diaper bag, do you know what to add? For most, “diapers” would be the obvious answer, but “diapers” is only the start of a list of several items. Essentially, what’s inside a diaper bag will help you address any emergency ranging from a soiled diaper or a spit up to a tired and cranky child. But, instead of packing too much inside, ParentDish gives some tips for packing a diaper bag. Some of these include:
• Bring half a day’s worth of diapers. This may vary with the child and his or her age. If you’re expecting to be out longer, consider packing more than this.
• Pack a changing pad. A bag may already be equipped with one or you may need to pack your own.
• Use travel sizes for wipes, powders, balms, and creams. If you can’t find travel-size containers of wipes, use your own container for packing a few sheets. All of these will take up less space in your bag.
• Bring a full change of baby clothes.
• Pack a bottle and a few snacks. These should be bagged well to prevent them from being soiled or exposed to bacteria.
• Bring along a few small toys, such as a teething ring or rattle.
• Have a few basic first aid items, such as child aspirin and bandages.
• Add a bib, tissues, and pacifier for longer trips.
• Never pack purse items in a diaper bag. They take up too much space and could become soiled. Such items include electronics, cash, a wallet, a cell phone, and large toys. Pack these in your purse or a separate bag.
