For nine months, you are told pregnancy is a sacrifice, through your body and career. Changes will happen or need to be made – and these, as you are told, are expected. As soon as you have your baby, however, everyone from friends and family to coworkers wonders when you’re going to drop the baby weight and start clocking in 60-plus hours a week again. Seeing tabloids claim celebrities got their pre-baby bodies back in months doesn’t help, either. A child, whether or not those around you realize it, is a lifestyle change. While you and your husband can juggle around hours at work, what should you do now about exercise?
Gym memberships and sitters aren’t necessary. Babies, after a few months, can accompany you through a new exercise program. Stroller Strides, an exercise program for mothers with children, is like any other workout program, except the mothers use their strollers for relays, cardio, and strength and core training. Much like any other exercise class, Stroller Strides gets participants to work up a sweat by moving strollers but also addresses the muscles new mothers want to strengthen.
Stroller Strides is held at the Valley View Mall in Roanoke for four mornings per week, and a similar exercise class for new mothers may be available in your area.
If you can’t find such a class or do not have time to attend, consider doing exercise with your child on your own time. Jogging strollers are one option allowing parents to be active with a baby. With a streamlined, three-wheel design, jogging strollers combine the sturdiness and stability of a standard model with an easy-to-maneuver frame. Unlike traditional four-wheel designs, jogging strollers go easily around corners and handle varied surfaces, from sidewalks to dirt paths. Such strollers provide comfort for the baby inside and provide enough support for a child six months or older.
